ABOUT

The Last of Their Kind is an installation that showcases the effect of environmental neglect on wildlife and habitat conservation. Its focus is on what our inaction is stealing from our children and our future generations.  The installation is a wholly immersive experience with ceramic sculptures on wooden books. Each sculptural piece showcases a wildlife species that is critically endangered or recently extinct.

And, each work is accompanied by a companion QR code visitors can use to access a virtual audio tour on their mobile device. These individual audio vignettes include actual recordings of each species’ habitat, along with educational information on their status, value, and impact on our world.

IMPACT GOALS

The Last of Their Kind harnesses art’s power to inspire awareness, then uses lectures and panel discussions with specialists in biological and ecological disciplines of conservation to provide an actionable path forward.  Lectures and panel discussions tie-in practical, positive actions individual citizens can do today, at their local level, to address pressing environmental issues. This approach translates the visual language of art and the language of scientific information to engage groups of all ages.

GOAL 1

The Last of Their Kind exhibition encourages an understanding of environmental issues in a new, thought provoking way, and facilitates discussions that lead to a fuller understanding of environmental conservation

GOAL 2

The Last of Their Kind exhibition illustrates the power of art to evoke profound, gut level responses to environmental issues, highlighting the way art can be a powerful tool to translate the language of science and conservation into the evocative language of art.

GOAL 3

Outreach and inclusion will target populations across the broadest economic and social demographics in an effort to reach the largest percentage of the public. Outreach will include public relations, paid advertising, community outreach, networking, social media, and web presence.
